DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University baseball lost a Tuesday afternoon showdown against Roanoke College.
Averett (13-6, 5-3 ODAC) started off scorching hot before faltering late as Roanoke (12-9-1, 5–2-1 ODAC) stormed back in the late innings. The Maroons earned a 13-9 victory.
The Cougars blasted out of the gates, blanking the Maroons in the top of the first before pouncing on Roanoke in the bottom of the inning. Averett piled on five runs: senior

Trevor Testerman led things off with back to back singles before senior
Preston Robbins broke the ice. Senior
Tyler Wilson drew a bases loaded walk to force in another run, and senior
Caden Grider singled to left field to push Averett ahead, 5-0.
The Averett offense would go on to extend the lead to as much as 7-2 before Roanoke swung its way back into the game. The teams traded blows in the middle innings, with Grider, Testerman, and junior
J.C. Barry piloting the Cougars' attack.
The Maroons clawed their way back to tie the game at 9-9 heading into the ninth inning. Roanoke tacked on four runs in the ninth to put the game away, sending it to the 13-9 final scoreline.
Testerman led the Cougars with three hits on the day, while Zischke, Barry, and Grider each added two. Barry and Grider tallied two RBIs to go along with their two hits, while Robbins also added two RBIs, and Wilson accounted for one.
Averett returns to action to play Bridgewater College on Saturday, March 29, for a doubleheader that kicks off at noon.
