LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University track and field kicked off the outdoor portion of its 2025 campaign at Lynchburg's Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational on Friday.
It was a light day of action for the Cougars, as Averett competed in just the women's 5k and the men's and women's javelin.
Men's javelin started off the day. Sophomore
Justin Schmied led the Cougars with a throw of 34.72m, enough to place him in 18th. Freshman
Damien Patrick followed close behind, placing 19th with a throw of 33.75m. Sophomore
Carlota Gonzalez led Averett's women in Javelin. Gonzalez scored the Cougars' top finish in the event, finishing 11th behind the strength of a 30.59m throw.
On track, sophomore
Gabrielle Griffin paced Averett in the women's 5k. Griffin raced her way to the Cougars' top finish on Day 1, coming home 10th with a time of 19:31.12.
The Cougars are right back at it for Day 2, set to kick off at 9 a.m. from Lynchburg, Virginia.
