Men's lacrosse loses to Chatham

DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's lacrosse kicked off spring break at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium with a 20-5 loss to Chatham University on Tuesday afternoon.

Chatham's scoring duo of Tanner Marsh and Jacob Lubawy netted a pair of scores to put Chatham (4-2) up four through the length of the first period.

The visiting Cougars would score two more unanswered before Averett's (1-5) Zachary Hulbert proceeded to grab his fifth goal of the year to put the home Cougars on the board. Emmett Wood helped to double the tally for the home side, but Chatham remained on course, bringing its lead up to 10 by halftime, with a 12-2 lead.

Brayton Powers, Dawson Hobbs, and Wood once more contributed with individual goals for Averett, but the visiting Cougars scored eight more of their own over the course of the second half to take a 20-5 decider by the final whistle.

Wood led the way for Averett with two goals, as he became the first Cougar to reach the 10-goal plateau this season. Tigran Ceesay and Powers both had an assist each. The aforementioned Ceesay led the team in ground balls with two.

Brady Warble and Casey Peterson both tallied caused turnovers versus Chatham, and Robbie Isenhour managed 30 saves on the afternoon. With his 30th save in the game, the freshman goalkeeper broke the program single-game saves record in the process.

Averett's home spring break slate continues later this week, hosting Anderson University of Indiana on Thursday, March 6. First faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
