Danville, Virginia – Averett University men's volleyball fell to the University of Lynchburg in three tightly contested sets.
Averett (2-13, 0-6 ODAC) lost a hard fought conference contest against Lynchburg (8-8, 2-4 ODAC) in three sets: 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.
The Hornets jumped out to an early advantage over Averett to start Set 1, leading by as much as 9 before the Cougars began to claw back. Averett rallied to bring the score closer behind a duo of kills from sophomore
Finn Oakley, before Lynchburg ultimately pulled away to finish the set, 25-16.
Set 2 featured a far more even run of play between the two sides. Scoring runs abounded for each team, with Lynchburg extending its lead before Averett yo-yoed back into the set. The back and forth dance between the teams continued into the late stages of the set, with the score as close as 24-21, before the Hornets closed the door.
The Cougars and Hornets continued their back and forth play in the third set. Once again, Lynchburg proved to be too much for Averett. The Hornets pulled away late in Set 3 to secure their second conference win of the season.
Oakley led the Averett attack, as the high-flying Englishman amassed 10 kills for the Cougars. Junior

Anibal Lopez brought along his shovel, accruing 9 digs as the leader of the Cougars' defensive efforts.
Averett is off for spring break over the weekend, before returning to action for a tri-match. The Cougars host Randolph College and Bethany College on Wednesday, March 12, starting at 3 p.m.
