CONYERS, Ga. — Three Cougars finished in the top eight as Averett University men's golf placed fourth as play concluded Sunday at the Discover Dekalb Emory University Invitational hosted at Cherokee Run Golf Club.
The Cougars shot a collective 18-over-par over during Sunday's final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 39-under. No. 3 Emory University, the host school, won the tournament with its B Team at 14-over, followed by University of Texas at Dallas with a 32-over. Emory's C Team placed third at 36-over, three strokes ahead of Averett.
Senior
Killian O'Reilly and freshman
Benjamin Afzelius both tied for fourth overall individually, shooting 5-five over for the three-round tournament. Afzelius totaled four birdies on the final day to shoot a 1-over, while O'Reilly's round of 2-over was highlighted by an eagle on No. 14. Junior
Miguel Rodriguez Lamana also had a top-10 finish, placing eighth at 6-over.
Emory's Kevin Mu dominated the field, finishing at 6-under to win by eight strokes.
Averett also got a score of 27-over from junior
Alexander Vidmo, a 31-over from freshman
Zach Always and a 36-over from freshman
Nick Baum.
The Cougars turn their attention to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships held April 27-29 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
