DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University baseball capped off its best season since 2016 with a berth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament.

The Cougars finished the season with a record of 19-14, 11-11 ODAC, en route to earning the No. 6 seed in the ODAC playoffs. The Cougars 19 win season represents a year over year increase that surprises nobody after the flashes the team showed last season. Additionally, Averett's 11 conference wins nearly double the team's results from the previous campaign.

The 2025 season has been special from the jump for Averett, who walked off Brevard College to highlight Opening Day action. The Cougars stayed on a roll, rattling off eight consecutive victories in March, including a conference sweep of Washington and Lee University in which the Cougars snapped a 16 game drought against the Generals. As the schedule toughened throughout the season, so too did the Cougars. A mid-April clash with the No. 2 ranked University of Lynchburg resulted in the highest of highs for Averett, who knocked off the nationally revered Hornets with a 10^th inning walkoff home run.

From Averett's seventh-year head man, Kenny Fleming, "I am so proud of what this team has accomplished this year. This team has the mindset back in August that it was time to start making moves within the conference. We've had some ups and downs this year, but their willingness to find a way through is a testament to this team's toughness, belief, and leadership."

All of the 2025 season's triumphs have led Averett to a first round clash with Bridgewater College, as the Cougars look to parlay their momentum into a deep run into the postseason, competing among the ODAC's best.

The Series: The Cougars have clashed with the Eagles 27 times before, and Bridgewater holds the advantage over Averett, 17-10. The regular season series heavily favored Bridgewater, as the Eagles swept Averett.
