LEXINGTON, Va. – A memorable run through the ODAC postseason bracket has come to an end for the Averett University women's tennis team, losing 4-0 to hosts and No. 39 ranked Washington and Lee in the conference championship on Sunday morning.
Taking the doubles point with set wins at No. 1 and No. 2, Washington and Lee (17-5) navigated its way to another ODAC title in singles, dispatching Averett (14-5), despite valiant fights from the various singles players.
Despite the loss, the Cougars tallied 14 wins, one short of the season-high achieved just last season, and tied their most conference wins with nine. For the second straight season, head coach
Bert Poole achieved a national ranking for the team as well, taking more steps in the right direction for the program.
With a successful season wrapped up, the Cougars now await its potential fate to enter into the national tournament bracket. Teams will be revealed on NCAA.com, tomorrow, May 5, at 12:30 p.m.
