FOREST, Va. — Averett University baseball had two players selected to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Team as head coach
Kenny Fleming was named ODAC Coach of the Year, the league announced Thursday.
Senior outfielder
Kevin Zischke earned All-ODAC First Team honors and redshirt sophomore third baseman
Trevor Testerman was named to the All-ODAC Second Team.
Zischke's senior campaign was far and away the most successful of his career. The Cougars' lefty right fielder swung a hot bat all season long, recording a .367 average, a .627 slugging percentage, and getting on base 45.2 percent of the time in 150 at bats. Zischke showcased outstanding power as well, tying the program's all-time home run record with nine long balls. Kevin added eight doubles and two triples, totaling 55 hits and 25 RBIs in his 36 games played and started. Zischke also flashed speed, swiping 13 bases which put him in position to lead the Cougars with 44 runs scored. Zischke also topped Averett's statistical leaderboard in hits, home runs, total bases, OPS and slugging.
Testerman played in and started 35 games, in which he batted .349, slugged .558, and reached base at a 45.9-percent rate in 129 at bats. Testerman finished with 45 hits, including 10 doubles, four triples, and three home runs. The Cougars' third baseman excelled in the clutch as well, posting 33 RBIs and scoring 38 runs, thanks in part to his 15 stolen bases. Manning the hot corner, Testerman played steady, posting a .912 fielding percentage. Testerman recorded a season-high three hits on three separate occasions, coming against Guilford College, Roanoke College, and Bridgewater College. Testerman also tallied two three-RBI performances, coming against Ferrum College and Roanoke. Testerman paced Averett in triples and RBIs. The All-ODAC selection marks Testerman's second of the season, after earning Second Team honors during the football season.
Fleming guided the Cougars to a 20-win season and guided the team to a sixth-place finish in the ODAC despite being picked 11th in the preseason poll. Fleming becomes the second coach in the baseball program's history to earn a conference coach of the year award, and he's only the second coach in any sport to earn that honor since Averett joined the ODAC in 2022-23.
