Football announces 2025 schedule with times

DANVILLE, Va. — A new season awaits Averett University football as the Cougars released their 2025 schedule with times and special dates. 

Averett continues its home-and-home with N.C. Wesleyan University, heading to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to open the season with a special Thursday night game on Sept. 4.

The home side of the Cougars' schedule begins on Saturday, Sept. 13, versus Southern Virginia University at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

Averett football coach Patrick Henry heads into 2025 with optimism.

"We couldn't be more excited for the upcoming season," he said. "This group has put in the work all offseason, and we've got a strong core of returners who understand what it takes to compete at a high level. The leadership, the energy, the hunger — it's all there. We're building something special, and we can't wait to show what this team is capable of once the season starts."

Old Dominion Athletic Conference play opens with a school entering its first season in the conference as a football-only member. Gallaudet University hosts Averett in the nation's capital on Saturday, Sept. 20. The Cougars head right back to Daly Field for their home conference opener against the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Saturday, Sept. 27 for Family Weekend. October opens up with an away trip to in-state Ashland, battling last year's ODAC champion Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Homecoming Weekend takes place on Saturday, Oct. 18, versus Hampden-Sydney College at 4 p.m., with the Cougars finishing the month on the road at Shenandoah University on Oct. 25. November features several key contest to close the season. Averett opens the month at home against Washington and Lee University on Nov. 1 before making the drive to Guilford College on Nov. 8. The Cougars finish out 2025 on Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day versus Roanoke College on Saturday, Nov. 15.
