Averett names Tiller as men's volleyball head coach

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University announced the hiring of Christopher Tiller as its next men's volleyball head coach on Thursday. Tiller will also serve as an assistant coach with the women's volleyball program.

"Christopher has a passion for the game and a commitment to developing student-athletes," Averett Director of Athletics Danny Miller said. "We're excited to see the impact he will have leading our men's program and contributing to the continued success of our women's team."

Tiller most recently served as a head coach with a focus on player development at PowerHaus Volleyball, an indoor and beach volleyball club in Cary, North Carolina. Tiller coached ages 13-18 and assisted with operations since 2023. In addition, he previously coached at Precision Athletics Volleyball Club from 2021-22 and has also been a volunteer camp coach with the University of North Carolina's volleyball program.

"It is such a huge honor to be given this opportunity at Averett," Tiller said. "I am so excited for the chance to create history with such a young program and develop our student-athletes on and off the court. There is such an exciting future here at Averett, and I am so pumped to be a part of it."

Averett volleyball enters its third season of play in this academic year with the season scheduled to begin in January. The Cougars also begin their season season as members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Outside of volleyball, Tiller has also worked in production, sales and development at several companies in North Carolina.

Originally from Mooresville, North Carolina, Tiller played volleyball in college with the club team at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He graduated from UNCG with a bachelor's degree in media studies in 2023.
