DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's basketball put away Randolph College for a 74-55 conference win on Wednesday night in the Grant Center.
Averett (10-3, 3-1 ODAC) shot better than 53 percent from the floor in the second half as the Cougars turned a seven-point halftime lead into as much as a 26-point advantage late in the second half. Randolph (4-10, 0-5 ODAC) cut that in half over the final few minutes but Averett's lead was never threatened as the Cougars hit double-digit wins.
Sophomore

Jalen Chambers chipped in 15 points off the bench. Freshman
Tyler Stephens notched his third double-double of the season, while sophomore

Averett's defense held Randolph scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game. Although the Cougars controlled the opening half from the tip and led by as many as 14 points, Randolph crept back into it and got within 26-20 in the final minutes of the first period and hit a shot at the buzzer to trim Averett's lead to 29-22 entering halftime.
