SALEM, Va. — Averett University men's basketball had its two-game win streak snapped in a 68-46 road loss to No. 17 Roanoke College on Friday.
Averett (12-6, 5-4 ODAC) led briefly at the start, but the nationally ranked Maroons quickly surged in front. While the Cougars couldn't find their rhythm offensively, Roanoke (15-4, 8-2 ODAC) controlled the paint and the glass on its way to a 36-18 halftime advantage.
Averett fought back to get within 12 before Roanoke pulled away late.
Freshman
Tyler Stephens led the Cougars with 12 points and sophomore
Mason Mitchell had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved a day early due to winter weather in Saturday's forecast.
Averett travels to University of Lynchburg on Wednesday.
