DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's basketball has released its schedule for the 2026-27 season, featuring a challenging non-conference slate before the Cougars enter another season of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition under head coach David Doino, who is entering his 13th season at the helm. 

The Cougars open the regular season at home on Monday, Nov. 9, welcoming Mary Baldwin University to the E. Stuart James Grant Center for a 6 p.m. tipoff. Averett will then travel to Greensboro College on Tuesday, Nov. 10, before returning home to host The Apprentice School on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.

"We are extremely excited to learn about our team early this year, as our schedule will challenge us every night to be great at the things that we control," Doino said. "Facing different styles from night to night will prepare us for what we will see regularly in the ODAC!"

Averett continues its early-season home stretch with a matchup against Southern Virginia University on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. The Cougars will also face Virginia State University in an exhibition contest on Wednesday, Nov. 4, before traveling to William & Mary for an exhibition on Friday, Nov. 20.

The Cougars' December schedule features several home contests, including their opening ODAC matchups against the University of Lynchburg on Dec. 2 and Hampden-Sydney College on Dec. 5. The month continues with non-conference foes in Pfeiffer University on Dec. 9 and Methodist University on Dec. 11. Averett will also host perennially ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m., providing another key test before the calendar turns to January.

Averett opens the new year on the road against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Sunday, Jan. 3, before returning to Danville to host Randolph College on Wednesday, Jan. 6. The Cougars continue conference play with road contests against Bridgewater College and Batten University before welcoming Shenandoah University to the Grant Center on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m.

The January schedule also features a road trip to Guilford College on Jan. 20 and Eastern Mennonite University on Jan. 23 before the Cougars host defending ODAC tournament champion Roanoke College on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. Averett then travels to Hampden-Sydney on Jan. 30 to close out the month.

The Cougars enter the final month of the regular season with road games against Washington and Lee University on Feb. 3 and Randolph on Feb. 10, along with a visit to Lynchburg on Feb. 13. Averett concludes its scheduled home slate with matchups against Guilford on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. and Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 4:30 p.m.

The 2027 ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament is scheduled to begin with the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The semifinals are set for Saturday, Feb. 27, with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.
