VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Averett University women's volleyball lost a three-set ODAC match at No. 23 Batten University on Friday evening at TowneBank Arena.
Batten (16-3, 4-2 ODAC) utilized a 14-0 start in the first set to amass a lead that remained untouched. Despite a solid showing late, which included a stretch in which Averett (1-11, 1-6 ODAC) won seven out of the last nine points, the Marlins closed it out, 23-15.
The Cougars kept the second set at bay, and were tied at 5-5 early on. However, Batten took nine of the next 12 points to go up 14-8. Its offensive momentum weighed strong, as the home team prevailed, 25-14, and the two-set lead.
The Marlins, ranked 23rd in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association poll, won 15 out of the opening 20 points in the third stanza, and did not lose a lead of more than 10 points for the rest of the period, and closed out the sweep with a 25-10 victory.

Tahani Villines hit .333 with six kills, and a team-high 12 digs. Villines and senior outside hitter
Allie Lane each recorded block assists, while freshman setter/right side
Hannah Batista had 13 assists.
The Cougars continue their weekend road trip at Randolph-Macon College tomorrow, Oct. 10. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
