LYNCHBURG, Va. — Behind a career-high 32 points from redshirt sophomore
Timayahs Bracey, Averett University men's basketball rolled past Randolph College 83-63 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.
Averett (14-8, 7-6 ODAC) put together a 10-1 run to help the Cougars take a 19-9 lead with 13:53 to play in first half. Averett maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the half on its way to a 38-29 halftime lead.
Bracey, who had just four points at halftime, began to heat up in the second half as Randolph (4-18, 0-13 ODAC) trimmed its deficit to just five points. Bracey netted Averett's first 14 points of the second half, including back-to-back 3-pointers to extend the Cougars' lead back to double digits.
In addition to Bracey, sophomores
Jackson Sellars and
Mason Mitchell and freshman
Tyler Stephens all scored in double figures — including Stephens recording his fifth career double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Mitchell finished with 16 points and Sellars had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Bracey's 32 points is the second highest total by an Averett player this season — three shy of Sellars' 35 points against Greensboro College on Nov. 14. Bracey's previous high was 24 points against Southern Virginia University on Nov. 12.
Averett dominated the glass, outrebounding Randolph 42-19.
Wednesday's win over Randolph gave Averett a sweep of the WildCats this season after also beating them 74-55 in Danville on Jan. 14.
The WildCats have now dropped 11 in a row and remain winless in ODAC play.
Averett continues its road trip with a Saturday game at No. 2 Randolph-Macon College.
