NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Averett University women's tennis comfortably dispatched the Rochester Institute of Technology, 6-1, to begin its spring campaign at the Eyre Courts.
After dropping the first doubles match, Averett (1-0) won out the last two, captivated by a six-game bagel by
Brenda Poulakidas and
Annika Kellerer at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
The Cougars rolled through singles, with only one match lost.
Sunna Maass won, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot versus Abby Finchum, and
Siddhi Khot did not lose a single game in her win over RIT's (3-3) Melanie Saborio.
Also victorious were
Harshri Asher and
Annika Kellerer in straight sets, while Poulakidas won in walkover fashion.
The Cougars take to the Eyre Courts tomorrow morning, battling No. 25 Christopher Newport University. Start time is set for 9 a.m.
