DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's lacrosse had its opening contest spoiled by visiting SCAD-Savannah on Saturday morning, as the Bees bested the Cougars 24-2.
Before the game began, both teams honored those affected by cancer with its annual "Lacrosse Out Cancer" tribute.
SCAD-Savannah (3-0) scored early, and never looked to the tune of 14 first half scores on Averett (0-1). The Cougars scored once in the first half from senior attacker
Emmett Wood, his first of two goals in the contest.
The Bees cruised to the away win, with much support from opponent Sebastian Manuel, who knotted seven scores for SCAD-Savannah. Assists from the Cougars came from junior
Connor Boyd, and freshman
Gavin Dean, who recorded his first collegiate point.
Starting in net, sophomore
Robbie Isenhour recorded 21 saves in the loss, as his record dropped to 0-1. Freshman
Johnny Johnson saw his first collegiate minutes in net, as well.
Dean also led Averett in ground balls with three, and seven Cougars all were involved in caused turnovers.
Giovanni D'Amico led all home players with two.
Averett returns to stick action on Wednesday, Feb. 18, heading to Roanoke College [RV] for its ODAC opener. Opening faceoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
