DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's lacrosse dropped a 25-3 decision to No. 3 University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Lynchburg (6-1, 1-0 ODAC) got the first two goals, but Averett's (0-8, 0-2 ODAC) senior
Luis Martinez cut into the lead off of a wonderful pass from fellow senior
Emmett Wood. However, the Hornets ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 9-2.
The Cougars had its best quarter defensively as they held Lynchburg to just two goals, but could not muster up a scoring effort in that same period.
The visitors outscored Averett the rest of the contest, on its way to the final horn and the win.
Other than Martinez, the Cougars had netters from junior
Connor Boyd and sophomore
Zachary Hulbert. Sophomore
Deven Perry had four ground balls, and senior
Casey Peterson led the team in caused turnovers with two.
With the start in net, sophomore
Robbie Isenhour recorded 15 saves.
Averett hosts its Indigenous People's Game next on Saturday, March 21 versus Randolph College. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
