DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University baseball fell to No. 22 Christopher Newport University in Tuesday action.
Averett (4-7) let Christopher Newport (8-3) take an early lead as the Captains earned a non-conference victory over the Cougars, finishing with a 12-2 win.
Christopher Newport showed their national pedigree, scoring runs in all but three innings, including six runs before Averett got on the board. The Cougars' lone scores of the game came courtesy of senior
Luke Keister. Keister continued to shine in the early portion of the season, flashing leather at shortstop and knocking a two-RBI single up the middle in the fourth inning.
Keister tied for the team lead in hits, as six different Cougars added one hit to their statline on the day.
Junior
Will Green II turned in a quality day on the mound, pitching four innings while holding the potent Captains offense to just two earned runs along the way.
Averett awaits another midweek test, taking to the road on Thursday to play Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m., March 5.
