DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's lacrosse lost 16-4 in its Senior Day game to Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Before the contest began, the Cougars honored six of its seniors, including
Cameron Shadduck,
Matthew Clark,
Emmett Wood,
Luis Martinez,
Casey Peterson, and
Angel Pascual Roman.
Averett (0-13, 0-7 ODAC) got off to the best start, as junior
Connor Boyd started the festivities with the opening goal in the first few minutes of action. A 3-0 unanswered run from visiting Shenandoah (5-10, 3-5 ODAC) put them in front by two before the second quarter came around.
Sophomore
Zachary Hulbert put his name in the scoresheet in the second stanza, but the Hornets tacked on three more scores to give them a four-goal lead at the half. Hulbert's second goal in the following period seemed to aid a potential comeback, but the visitors' offense kept Averett at bay, as its lead extended to 9-3.
A seven-goal fourth locked up a victory for the Hornets, despite a scoring effort from sophomore
Cory Habick.
Hulbert's two goals, along with an assist gave him the team point lead with three on the day. Peterson had six ground balls, and junior
Giovanni D'Amico had two caused turnovers.
Playing the entire game in front of net, sophomore
Robbie Isenhour managed 15 saves.
Averett hits the road down US-29 for a game at Guilford College on Wednesday, Apr. 15. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
