DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University softball dropped both games of an ODAC doubleheader on Wednesday.
In the first game, Averett was held scoreless in a 4-0 loss. The Cougars recorded four hits, with freshman Hailey Akers leading the way with two. Averett kept the game close early, but Guilford (15-18-1, 5-9 ODAC)Â pulled away with three runs in the sixth inning.
In game two, Averett fell 6-3. The Cougars collected nine hits and scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth to try to rally. Senior Kailey Gates had two hits and an RBI, while Akers and senior Hannah Zabik also drove in runs.
The Cougars celebrate Senior Day on Saturday when they host Randolph College for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
