DANVILLE, Va. – No. 75 and second-seeded Averett University women's tennis reached the ODAC semifinals for the fourth consecutive season with a 4-0 sweep of seventh-seed Shenandoah University at the Averett Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
Averett (14-3) won easily at both second and third doubles slots to take the first point. Senior
Brenda Poulakidas and sophomore
Sunna Maass won 6-1, while junior
Annika Kellerer and junior
Ella Boddington dropped no games en route to their set win.
The top three singles players clinched victory for the Cougars. Shenandoah's (7-11) challenges were not to be undermined, however, as the Hornets gave Averett a fight. Junior
Dilara Sultanova won 6-4, 6-1, while senior
Harshri Asher won a close 6-2, 7-6 encounter.
Poulakidas completed the team's sweep with a three-set win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Averett will face the third seed in Virginia Wesleyan University in the ODAC semifinals on Saturday, May 2. Start time at Washington and Lee's Outdoor Tennis Courts is set for 1:30 p.m.
