No. 75 women’s tennis race past Shenandoah in ODAC quarterfinals

DANVILLE, Va. – No. 75 and second-seeded Averett University women's tennis reached the ODAC semifinals for the fourth consecutive season with a 4-0 sweep of seventh-seed Shenandoah University at the Averett Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Averett (14-3) won easily at both second and third doubles slots to take the first point. Senior Brenda Poulakidas and sophomore Sunna Maass won 6-1, while junior Annika Kellerer and junior Ella Boddington dropped no games en route to their set win.

The top three singles players clinched victory for the Cougars. Shenandoah's (7-11) challenges were not to be undermined, however, as the Hornets gave Averett a fight. Junior Dilara Sultanova won 6-4, 6-1, while senior Harshri Asher won a close 6-2, 7-6 encounter.

Poulakidas completed the team's sweep with a three-set win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Averett will face the third seed in Virginia Wesleyan University in the ODAC semifinals on Saturday, May 2. Start time at Washington and Lee's Outdoor Tennis Courts is set for 1:30 p.m.
