DANVILLE, Va. --  Averett University announced the addition of Abby Owen '26 to the athletics operations staff as a graduate assistant in August 2026 after having completed a four-year softball career for the Cougars.

A first baseman from Chatham, Virginia, Owen played in 129 career games for Averett, having tallied 33 hits, four doubles, a triple, a home run, and six stolen bases. Off the field, Owen is a four-time ODAC All-Academic team honoree, and earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators twice. She was also twice named to the ODAC Spring Sportsmanship team.

Owen graduated from Averett in May 2026 with a bachelor's degree in aerospace management and is pursuing her master's degree from Averett.
