FOREST, Va. – Averett football junior defensive back Jeremiah Marks, after his three-interception outing against Gallaudet on Sept. 19, was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference football defensive player of the week, the conference offices announced on Sunday.

Marks, hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, easily had his best complete game in an Averett uniform, as he recorded three of the Cougars' five overall takeaways versus the Bison yesterday afternoon. Marks etched himself into defensive program lore as the first player in Averett football history to record three picks in a single contest. 

His outing marks the first time Cougar notched two or more picks since Nathanial Lake had two interceptions versus Greensboro on Nov. 11, 2017.

Marks now leads the ODAC in interceptions, and ranks 12th in Division III in passes defended with 2. In back-to-back weeks, Averett had a player named as a player of the week in the conference, and is the first time that the program has had a player named to the weekly laurels in consecutive weeks since Jahlin Russell '24 achieved that on Nov. 5-12, 2023. 

Marks' award is the fifth overall weekly honor for the program since Averett joined the ODAC in 2022.
