Averett Athletics COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines

  • Extra Cleaning/Sanitizing
    • Purchased sprayers and misting machines designed for disinfection and will be used for efficient sanitizing of high touch areas to be used by facility staff
    • Coaches have been provided pump sprayers to apply disinfectant equipment and balls used in their practices/games
    • Hand Sanitizers are provided throughout facilities for everyone to be able to access and use
    • We have increased Housekeeping in Common Areas (This also includes restrooms and locker rooms)
      • Sweep & mop floors multiple times a day
      • Clean common restrooms four times per day
      • Wipe high-touch fixtures such as door handles and push bars on a bi-hourly basis
      • Apply the disinfecting solution to showers daily using a mister
      • Apply disinfecting solution to shower partitions, walls, and fixtures three times a day
      • Install locker room log sheets for coaches to mark when a space disinfectant applied
    • Increase application of disinfectant on the turf of Daly Field by spraying no less than once per week
    • Increase cleaning the gym rubber floor by cleaning it with the scrubber three times per week
    • We have de-densified the classrooms by removing furniture to suit the maximum occupancy
    • Application of Disinfectant in Classrooms
      • Clean each classroom by 8 a.m. each morning
        • Apply the disinfectant solution to chairs and desks
        • Clean each classroom again at the end of the academic day
        • Apply disinfectant using misting machine upon completion of the end-of-day cleaning
    • We will apply disinfectant to the Grant Center bleachers using the misting machine after any event before putting the bleachers back into their stored position
    • Facility and Housekeeping Staff will meet daily to discuss any changes that need to be made
 
  • Facilities and Altered Spaces
    • A secondary training room was created out of the Cougar Den at the stadium to help with the smaller occupancy numbers of the existing training room to be able to treat more student-athletes at a time
    • Three large tents have been acquired to serve as alternative spaces for meetings, weight lifting, visitor locker rooms space (sidewalls have been acquired as well), classrooms, and taping space for sports medicine
    • New occupancy has been posted at every space at North Campus to help adhere to safe social distancing
 
  • New Procedures for Sports Medicine
    • Acquired 40 no-touch thermometers
    • Each student-athlete and athletics staff member will perform mandatory daily temperature checks
    • Each student-athlete and staff member will complete a mandatory daily self-check prior to entering facilities
    • Each student-Athlete is being given their own water bottle to avoid cross-contamination by sharing
    • Water Coolers with bottle-push access purchased to provide water with no potential for transference
    • Treatment tables will be sanitized after every use
    • All surfaces/equipment contacted during that session will be sprayed and wiped down with disinfectant
    • Misting machine will be used by housekeeping staff nightly to apply disinfectant
 
 
  • New Procedures for Sports Performance
    • Purchased Online Software (TeamBuildr) to provide access to customized workout plans for remote usage with 24/7 access via a mobile device
    • Created small group assignments coupled with rack assignments. Student-athletes will only lift with their pre-determined group at their assigned rack
    • Lifting will take place outdoors whenever possible
    • Student athletes will be in face coverings while lifting, except when safe social distancing can be achieved.
    • New Cleaning Procedure in Weight Rooms
      • Disinfectant will be applied with sprayer machine between each lifting group
      • Student-Athletes will apply disinfectant to equipment prior to each lift and at the end of each lift
      • Misting machine will be used by housekeeping staff nightly to apply disinfectant
 
  • COVID-19 New Protocols/Procedures/Education
    • Face Coverings
      • Face coverings will be worn at all times in team, individual, film meetings, athletic training etc.(all times except during actual practice)
    • Social distancing will be practiced whenever feasible
    • Electronic whistles have been purchased for coaching staff
    • Face coverings have been purchased for all student athletes to use during athletics activities
    • In coordination with student life and the local health department; Plans are in place for student-athletes and staff with signs and symptoms and/or positive tests
    • Students and staff are being educated and will understand
    • Holding Student-athlete/Coach Orientation at least two-weeks prior to student-athlete return
      • Educating self-care/hygiene
      • Explaining two-week self-care/quarantining to limit exposure prior to return to campus
      • Explained what they could expect when returning to campus with all the new COVID-19 procedures/protocols
    • A four-phase protocol has been developed and will be implemented upon student-athlete return and pertains to teams practicing/competing
    • All athletics teams have a staggered schedule to return to North Campus.
