T.J. Viracola returned to the Averett University baseball program as an assistant coach in August 2018.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Viracola pitched for four seasons for Averett from 2013-16, making 63 appearances with 12 wins and three saves in 211 2/3 innings. He struck out 165 batters and finished with a 3.44 earned run average for the Cougars. As a senior, he was named to the 2016 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Second Team as a starting pitcher and was also selected as Averett's 2015-16 Male Senior Athlete of the Year. He also earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors.
Since completing his degree at Averett, Viracola has worked as The Performance Academic in Apex, North Carolina. He served as a head coach for multiple youth teams over a two-year span, including leading a 12U team to a top 25 finish out of 104 teams in Cooperstown, New York, in August 2018.
Viracola earned his bachelor's in coaching from Averett in 2016. He's currently pursuing his master's in business administration from Averett.
