Averett University Athletics

Alumnus Tyler Smith ‘23 returned to the Averett University baseball program as an assistant coach in July 2023. 

Smith, a left-handed pitcher for the Cougars, was a four-year member with the baseball program from 2020-23 and twice earned baseball’s service award at Averett Athletics’ Night of Champions. Off the field, Smith earned academic all-conference honors all four years. 

A native of Thomasville, North Carolina, Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in sports medicine and wellness and in coaching from Averett in May 2023. He is pursuing his master’s degree from Averett.
