Angie Bowers served as the Averett University cheerleading head coach from October 2012 through May 2018 before returning to help guide the cheer and dance programs in fall 2025.
Bowers, who is also the office manager for the university's admissions department, completed her Cheer Coaching Certification Level 1 with the National Federation Association and the Virginia State Component for Cheer & Coaching.
As head coach, she grew the Averett cheerleading program's number of participants and she helped the Cougars achieve major honors in March 2018 as Averett's team was named the 2018 Christian Cheerleaders of America National Champions and Collegiate Grand Champions at its first competition in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Before coming to Averett, she worked in Finance, Real Estate, and the Danville Public School System. She has also served as president of the George Washington High School Baseball Booster club, Virginia Commissioner of Danville Little League, Treasurer of the George Washington High School Basketball Booster Club as well as president of the PTA at Bonner Middle School and Langston Focus High School. While at Averett, she has served on staff Counsel for multiple terms as well as several committees over the years.
Angie is a native of Trinity, North Carolina, and has lived in Danville for more than 30 years with her husband, Jeff. They are the parents of two adult sons, along with several grandchildren.
