Alex Smith joined the Averett University football program as an assistant coach in July 2018. Smith coaches the wide receivers for the Cougars.
Prior to joining Averett's program, Smith coached cornerbacks at West Virginia Wesleyan College for one season. In addition, he oversaw video and film for practices and games, managed the equipment room and assisted with recruiting. From August 2013 until December 2016, Smith was at Bridgewater College, where he served as a tight ends coach, film coordinator and student-assistant.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Smith graduated from Bridgewater in December 2016 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies. He is currently pursuing his master's in business administration from Averett.
