<p>
Cornelius Coleman, who has been on Averett's coaching staff since 2007, was promoted to assistant head coach in December 2011. Coleman continues to coach Averett's defensive line and also serves as the Cougars' recruiting coordinator, a position he's held since 2010.<br />

Coleman coached the defensive line since 2011 after serving as the linebackers coach for the previous two seasons. Prior to that, Coleman coached the defensive line from 2007-08.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
Coleman joined Averett from Robert Morris University, where he performed various roles within the school&rsquo;s admissions and compliance offices.</p>
<p>
Coleman graduated from Waynesburg College, where Averett head coach Mike Dunlevy was a coach before joining the Cougars. Coleman played four years and was a three-year starter under Dunlevy. He was selected to the All-Conference First Team for the President&rsquo;s Athletic Conference in 1999 and was an All-American Honorable Mention. In 1998, Waynesburg won the PAC Conference championship with Coleman and Dunlevy&rsquo;s help.</p>
<p>
After college, Coleman enjoyed a brief professional career. In 2000, he started all 18 games at defensive end for the Dayton Skyhawks of the Indoor Football League. In 2002, he started in eight games and played 10 at defensive end and tight end for the Roanoke Steam of the Arena Football League.</p>

Coleman graduated from Waynesburg in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in communication. He also holds two Masters degrees <span id="article_font">&ndash;</span> a Master of Business Administration degree from Waynesburg and a Master of Science in Sport Management from Robert Morris University. Coleman is currently working toward a Doctor of Education degree from Argosy University. He lives in Danville. In 2013, his brother Anthony joined the Averett football coaching staff.</p>
