Harry John joined the Averett University football team in the summer of 2016 as an assistant coach after playing four seasons for the Cougars. In 2017, John became the the offensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach after coaching the running backs in 2016.
A native of Cary, North Carolina, John was an offensive lineman for Averett from 2009-12. He made 25 game appearances in his time as a Cougar. In 2012, he was a member of Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State Team and was also a 2012 selection to the USA South All-Conference Team.
During his time at Averett, John was a four-year member of the athletic training program, where he served as a student trainer. In 2013, John earned his Functional Movement Screening certification.
After graduating from Averett in 2013 with a bachelor’s in athletic training, John spent most of 2014 as a player/coach for the Monash Warriors Gridiron Club in Melbourne, Australia. During his seven month stay with the Warriors, he served as the offensive line coach of the Monash Barbarians junior program, while playing offensive line for the senior program. John earned Offensive Lineman of the Year honors the same year as well while helping the Warriors win the league championship.
Adding to his already impressive resume, John has also spent time in the Professional Indoor Football League, where he played for the Columbus Lions, Alabama Hammers, and Nashville Venom from February to August of 2015.
John is currently pursuing his master's degree in education.
