Jesse Santiago joined the Averett University football program as an assistant coach in July 2019. He moved to wide receivers coach in January 2021 after coaching the running backs in in the fall of 2020 and previously coaching the defensive backs for the Cougars in 2019.
Santiago comes to Averett after a three-year playing career at Emory & Henry College, where he was an ODAC All-Conference performer for three straight years as a wide receiver. He finished his playing career with 141 receptions for 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
While at Emory & Henry, Santiago completed a coaching internship in the summer of 2018. He also gained experience both refereeing and coaching intramural football, basketball, soccer and wrestling.
A native of Yorktown, Virginia, Santiago graduated from Emory & Henry in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in health and human performance with a minor in coaching.
