Joey Vaughan joined the Averett University football program as an assistant coach in spring 2025 as the defensive backs coach.
Vaughan previously served as the defensive pass game coordinator, defensive backs coach and specialists coach at Division III Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Campus during the 2024 season, where he coached two all-conference selections as the Devils made their first Centennial Middle Atlantic Conference Bowl appearance and win in program history. He also served as the program’s junior varsity head coach and defensive coordinator.
Prior to FDU-Florham, Vaughan was a defensive assistant coach, working with safeties and quality control with Division III Salisbury University from 2021-24. He coached a 2022 All-American at safety and three all-conference selections.
A native of Northern Virginia, Vaughan graduated from Salisbury in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
