Joseph Roane

Joseph Roane joined the Averett football coaching staff in July 2014 as the linebackers coach.

A native of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Roane comes to Averett after coaching linebackers at Bridgewater College the past two seasons. While at Bridgewater, he coached three all-conference selections and also helped the Eagles as a special teams assistant. Prior to Bridgewater, Roane was an intern assistant coach in 2011 at University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia. He also has been a volunteer coach at Atlee High School, Virginia Military Institute and the College of William & Mary.

Roane is also a past participant in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Future Coaches Academy.

In addition to coaching football, Roane was the throwers coach for Bridgewater’s track and field team from 2012-13 and coached the Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion in weight throw.

Roane played four seasons at Washington and Lee University from 2006-2009. Roane was a three-year varsity letterman and earned ODAC Academic All-Conference honors three times. He also was a member of Washington and Lee’s ODAC championship team in 2006.

Roane graduated from Washington and Lee in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in U.S. history with a license and certification in secondary social studies and physical education and health. He earned his master’s degree in athletic coaching education from West Virginia University in 2012.
