Richard Breen

Richard Breen was named Averett University's Faculty Athletics Representative in September 2015.

Breen, a professor of theatre and co-chair of the theatre department, began teaching at Averett in 1996. In this time, he has directed over 40 shows at Averett and been an integral part in the development of the department. He is also currently a Faculty Athletic Mentor for the university’s football team, a role he has served in since 2014.

No stranger to Averett athletics, Breen was a member of the track and field team, where he threw shot put during the 1980 season. He was also the voice of the Averett University football team during its inception and served in that position for five years.

Breen has earned several accolades throughout his time at Averett, including an Advisor of the Year nod in 2002-03 and an Averett Football Faculty Appreciation award in 2010.

An alumnus of Averett, Breen earned his bachelor of fine arts in 1981. He received his master of fine arts in 1989 from Western Illinois University.
