David Gurganus

David Gurganus joined the men’s basketball program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2015.
 
In his first season with Averett, Gurganus helped guide Averett to a 15-11 overall record while knocking off a Division II opponent and several solid non-conference foes from the competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). He also has helped produce one USA South All-Conference selection.

Prior to Averett, Gurganus served as an assistant coach for one season at N.C. Wesleyan College, where he also played basketball for four years. While at N.C. Wesleyan, he was a team captain for two seasons and was selected to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team twice.

Gurganus, a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, brings a variety of experience to Averett’s basketball program. He’s worked a series of basketball camps at various institutions, including Duke University, Virginia Commonwealth University and N.C. Wesleyan.
 
Gurganus earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from N.C. Wesleyan in 2014 and is currently pursuing an MBA at Averett.
