Karen Oaks began working at Averett in 2012 as the Nursing Department’s Simulation Coordinator and Assistant Professor. Oaks received her registered nursing diploma from the Danville Regional Medical Center School of Nursing in June of 1997. From there, she went on to attain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Nursing in Nursing Education from Old Dominion University in May of 2000 and August of 2007 respectively. In addition, Oaks obtained her Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from East Tennessee University in August of 2014.
Oaks was born in Kittery, Maine, but moved every three to four years as her father was in the Air Force. She moved to Danville in 1995 with her husband Scott and has made this their home since. Oaks enjoys spending time with her family and friends, biking, hiking, watching sports, reading and doing quiz bowl games.
