Lynn Ward joined the Averett tennis programs as an assistant coach in the spring of 2014.
Ward also serves as the girls’ tennis head coach at Person High School in Roxboro, N.C. during the fall. Ward has been the head coach at Person for five years, taking the Rockets to the 4A state playoffs three times. At Person, he has tallied a 71-33 overall record, including a 20-6 mark during ther 2013 season. He has coached numerous all-conference players and has had seven players qualify for individual regionals. Ward also was named the 2010 North Carolina Tennis Co-Coach of the Year.
Before taking over the girls’ tennis program at Person, Ward was the volleyball assistant coach for 10 years, helping guide the Rockets to two state 4A championships.
A native of Goldsboro, N.C., Ward teaches English, humanities and history at Piedmont Community College in Roxboro and Yanceyville, N.C. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1985 and earned his master’s degree in English from East Carolina University in 1988. Ward lives in Mebane, N.C.
