Stefanie Clayton - Softball

Stefanie Anderson

On June 15, 2007, Stefanie Anderson returned to the Averett University family as the Cougars head softball coach. Anderson, who served as an assistant coach during the 2007 season and was a student-athlete on the AU squad the previous four seasons, is the fourth head coach in the program’s history.

The softball program has already seen the fruits of her work. After the Cougars went 8-23 in her first season, Anderson guided Averett to a 20-17 record in 2009.

Anderson, a Danville, Va., native, is a 2006 graduate of Averett and is familiar with Danville area softball, as she was a former standout at Tunstall High School in Dry Fork. For the 2007 season, Anderson played a large role in the Averett recruiting efforts.

During her four years as a student-athlete, Anderson (formerly Stefanie Clayton) helped the team to a USA South Conference Championship in 2004. That team was the first team in the program’s history to advance to the NCAA Tournament. In 2006, Anderson was chosen as a team captain and was a starter in the outfield.

Anderson was also very involved in the campus community as a Cougar student-athlete. She played a large role in AU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. Anderson also spearheaded many community service projects while serving on the committee and represented Averett at the national convention.

Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies and a Masters of Education degree from Averett. She resides in the Danville area with her husband Chad.
