In just three seasons at the helm of the women's basketball program, Katrina Williams has established herself immediately as a knowledgeable and successful coach. Williams has taken the Averett program to new heights after setting school records for overall wins and conference wins during the 2009-10 season.
Williams guided Averett to a 17-9 overall record and a 12-6 mark in conference play in 2009-10. The team's 17 wins topped the team's 2008-09 final record of 14-12 for the best season in program history. In each of her three years, the Cougars have set a new program record for conference wins in a season.
In the summer of 2007, Williams joined Averett University as the women’s basketball head coach. Williams became the sixth head coach in the varsity program’s history.
Off the court, Williams has also guided her team to success. In 2008, the team received recognition from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville.
Before joining Averett, Williams, a native of Roanoke, Va., most recently served as an assistant coach at Ferrum College. While serving on the Panthers staff, she helped head coach Bryan Harvey lead the team to a school-best 21-7 record in 2006-07. Ferrum advanced to the USA South Conference Tournament Championship game both seasons Williams provided assistance. Additionally, she played a major role in the recruiting process that landed 11 freshmen on the Ferrum campus over the last two seasons, including the 2007 USA South Conference Rookie of the Year.
Williams is a 2004 graduate of Roanoke College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She was a three-year standout on the Maroons basketball team after playing one season at Virginia Tech. Williams was a three-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference all-league selection, including first team selections in 2002 and 2003. She was also named the ODAC Player of the Year in 2003 and earned honorable mention All-America honors.
Williams currently lives in Danville.
