Dominik Pocrnja joined Averett University as the Assistant Director of Athletics Communications in May 2024.
Pocrnja serves as a primary contact for multiple sports and is integral to Averett’s statistics and broadcasting production operations on game days. He also assists with historical archiving and managing student workers.
In October 2025, Pocrnja was nominated and selected as one of 30 participants in the NCAA Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program by the NCAA Division III Governance staff. Created in partnership with D3SIDA and College Sports Communicators, the Emerging Elite program is designed to elevate the next generation of athletic communication leaders in Division III. Participants engage in interactive sessions focused on leadership development, managing and growing a team, cross-department collaboration and navigating the evolving landscape of college athletics communications.
Pocrnja came to Averett after serving as a graduate assistant for fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference member Guilford College. During his time at Guilford, he assisted the department with stat keeping, writing post-game stories and managing website functions.
Prior to his time working in the athletic communications department, Pocrnja was a four-year member for the men’s tennis team at Guilford. During his time as a student-athlete, he completed an internship at Duke University with its athletics communications department, assisting several sports teams across the fall, winter and spring seasons.
Originating from Greensboro, North Carolina, Pocrnja graduated from Guilford College with a bachelor’s degree in sport management in the spring of 2023 and received his master’s in international sport management at Guilford in 2024.
