Olivia Earls volleyball 2023

Olivia Earls

Olivia Earls was named Averett University’s volleyball head coach in January 2022.

In her first season with Averetts' women's volleyball program, Earls helped the Cougars make the move to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with success. Earls guided Averett to a 20-11 overall record with a 10-2 mark in the ODAC. Averett earned the No. 2 seed while finishing as the runner-up in the ODAC Tournament in its inaugural season in the league. Earls was named the ODAC's Coach of the Year while producing the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) State Defensive Player of the Year, two all-state selections, three All-ODAC performers, two ODAC All-Tournament selections, three Academic All-District selections, one VaSID Academic All-State selection and one ODAC Player of the Week. Other highlights in her first season included ending Washington and Lee's 33-match conference winning streak (one of two wins over the Generals), a road win against regionally ranked Randolph-Macon College and a win over regionally ranked University of Mary Washington.

Although Averett was new to the ODAC, Earls was no stranger to the conference. She played four seasons at Roanoke College and served as an assistant coach for two seasons from 2020-21 at Ferrum College, including serving as the interim head coach for the Panthers during the fall 2020 semester. Prior to joining the coaching staff at Ferrum, Earls was a graduate assistant at Division II University of Charleston from 2018-20.

In addition to her college coaching experience, Earls previously coached club volleyball. She was the head coach of 17 Regional and 18 American Vantage Volleyball from 2019-20, head coach for 17 Open Roanoke United Volleyball from 2017-18 and was a three-year assistant coach for the 16, 17 and 18 Club Roanoke United Volleyball.

As a student-athlete, Earls was a four-year member of Roanoke’s volleyball program from 2014-17 and served as team captain during her senior season.

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Earls earned her Bachelor of Science in health and physical education from Roanoke in 2017 and received her Master of Science in strategic leadership from Charleston in 2019.
