Box Score
DANVILLE, Va. — Averett senior
Jonathan Rumley became the eighth player in the program's history to reach 1,000 career points as the Cougars rolled past Greensboro College 78-57 on Saturday at the Grant Center.
With a sound lead, Rumley took a handoff from senior
Dimitri Braakman, who set a screen and allowed Rumley to drill a 3-pointer to hit the milestone. Rumley, who only needed 15 points entering the game, finished with 22 and now has 1,007 for his career. Rumley, who accomplished the feat in only three seasons at Averett, is the second Cougars to hit 1,000 this season. Fellow senior
Damien Brown accomplished the mark on Jan. 24.
Despite a close first half, Averett (13-8, 6-2 USA South) inched away to a 39-32 lead at halftime. The Cougars put the game away quickly at the start of the second half. Senior
Ryan Frazier and freshman
Kenny Hart each hit a 3-pointer early as Averett put together a 12-2 run after halftime. The lead grew to more than 20 on another Frazier 3-pointer.
Greensboro never got any closer than 19 the rest of the way as Averett earned a regular-season sweep of the Pride. The Cougars beat the Pride 55-52 at Greensboro on Jan. 13.
Rumley also added nine rebounds and eight assists. Frazier scored all 12 of his points from beyond the arc and Hart added 11 points.
Averett shot 47.2 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from 3-point range.
Michael Mitchell was the only Greensboro player to score in double figures. He finished with 12 points and 11 boards.
