TOWSON, Md. — Averett University volleyball standouts
Paige Aaron and
Jesse Jones were selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Aaron and Jones are Averett's first Academic All-Americans in school history. Both were eligible after recently being voted to the Academic All-District First Team.
Aaron, a junior libero, has a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in Education (Math). She is a two-time USA South Academic All-Conference performer, but her success isn't limited to just the classroom. This season, Aaron led the team with 4.88 digs per set, as well as 80 service aces in 128 sets played. She was named to the USA South All-Conference Third Team and earned the USA South's Defensive Player of the Week award four times this season.
Jones, a senior setter, has a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in Athletic Training. She is a three-time USA South Academic All-Conference performer who also received Academic All-District Second Team honors last year. Jones also succeeded on the court, averaging 8.26 assists and 1.75 digs per set. She was voted to the USA South All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.
The Capital One Academic All-America honors are voted upon by Academic All-America Committee members and current CoSIDA Board of Directors. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
