DANVILLE, Va. — Averett scored a season-high six goals in a 6-0 shutout over Salem College on Tuesday at the Cougar Den.

Averett (4-1), playing for the second consecutive day, showed no signs of fatigue in their second shutout in a row. Averett dominated the possession for most of the contest, outshooting Salem (5-2) by a 29-9 margin.

The Cougars got the only goal they would need in the 19th minute, when Taylor Ortman lofted a ball over Salem goalkeeper Jessi Carter's head from about 40 yards out. The goal was the first of Ortman's collegiate career.

Pernilla Milton's header off Suvi Piipponen's corner kick in the 40th minute and Susana Arenas's goal on a pass from Nadja Sandau put Averett ahead 3-0 by halftime.

Allison Lord scored her first collegiate goal on a header from a Piipponen corner kick in the 65th minute, and Piipponen added a goal of her own on a penalty kick moments later. Annika Rindestedt finished off the Averett scoring with a goal off a cross pass from Sandau in the 69th minute.

Cougars goalkeeper Samantha Lupo, making her first start of the season, had eight saves to earn the win.

Averett returns to action on Sunday at Guilford College.
