Volleyball's Aaron named to Academic All-America First Team

TOWSON, Md. — Averett senior volleyball player Paige Aaron was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday. Aaron was a Second Team selection last season.

Aaron, a libero, has a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in mathematics with a teaching certificate. The Danville, Va., native earned Capital One Academic All-District honors First Team honors earlier this season for the second year in a row.

"This is a great accomplishment for Paige as well as great recognition for our program," Averett volleyball coach Danny Miller said. "We always talk about academics and athletics both being important and Paige is the perfect example of how you can excel at both."

During her first three seasons, Aaron earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors. In 2012, she received the USA South Conference's prestigious Don Scalf Award as the conference's Female Student-Athlete of the Year. On the court, Aaron had a stellar senior season. She was named the USA South Defensive Player of the Week twice and finished with an average of 4.98 digs per set with a team-high 63 service aces.
