DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team won its second consecutive game in a 2-0 shutout against conference opponent LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman midfielder
Amanda Gustavsson started the momentum for Averett (2-9-0, 2-4-0 USA South). She netted the ball from the left side on a break away in the eighth minute to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead in the first period.
The Cougars maintained the lead throughout the half as the defense held LaGrange (5-9-0, 2-5-0 USA South) to six shots.
In the second period, freshman forward
Julia Ritcey scored on a cross in the box from
Ebonee Strother in the 72nd minute to keep things going for the Cougars to capture their first home victory.
Gustavsson and Ritcey are now tied for a team-high four goals. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kim Josephson finished with four saves.
Averett returns to action on Sunday to play in another conference matchup against Huntingdon at 3:30 p.m.
