AUSTIN, Texas — Averett University women's soccer senior
Cathrine Onarheim was voted to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division III First Team presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced on Friday.
Onarheim was one of 11 players across the country named to the Academic All-America First Team. She is the first Averett women's soccer player to earn Academic All-America honors, and is the fourth Cougar student-athlete in any sport to earn Academic All-America honors.
"She epitomizes what every student-athlete aspires to be," Averett women's soccer coach
Carly Pearce said. "This award is a result of her dedication and hard work."
A native of Bergen, Norway, Onarheim was one of 12 selected to the District 5 Division III Academic All-District Team on Oct. 30, making her eligible for Academic All-America. In the class room, Onarheim boasts a 4.0 grade point average in biomedical science, is a three-time USA South Academic All-Conference selection and a member of the 2013-14 Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team. On the field, Onarheim has earned USA South All-Conference honors in each of her four seasons, including All-Conference First Team as a junior and Second Team honors this year.
