MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Averett University women's basketball team pulled out 66-59 conference victory over Huntingdon College on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Averett (5-7, 3-3 USA South) led most of the way, including an 18-point lead in the first half with the help of freshman guard
Samm Chandler's 10 points, who finished with a career-high 16 points.
Â
Even with the Cougars' good start, Huntingdon (7-7, 2-4 USA South) came back with a 12-0 run in the last four minutes of the half to only trail 29-26 at halftime.
Â
Huntingdon took its first lead of the game when Jenna Dorman hit a short jumper from inside the paint to put the Hawks ahead by two with 16:03 left in the game. Though Dorman gave the Hawks the advantage over the Cougars, Pat Pickens was the scoring force for Huntingdon as the only player to score in double figures with 19 points.
Â
With Huntingdon in front, the Hawks still couldn't find an answer for freshman center
Jonna Koski, who snagged her third double-double of the season with 15 points and matched her career-high with 11 rebounds. The Cougars regained the lead with 4:40 on the clock and continued to find the bottom of the net going on an 8-0 run to eventually clinch the win.
Â
Sophomore guard
Da'Shanae Hardy scored a season-high of nine points and junior guard
Jessica Myers also added nine for the Cougars.

Averett returns to conference action again on Wednesday at Mary Baldwin College at 7:30 p.m.Â
