DEMOREST, Ga. — Averett University volleyball rolled past a pair of USA South Conference opponents on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars swept Ferrum College 3-0, then defeated host Piedmont College 3-1.
Averett (19-9, 11-2 USA South) eased past Piedmont (15-11, 8-4 USA South) in the first two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-18. The Lions fought off the Cougars 28-26 to stay alive, but Averett took the fourth set 25-20 to complete an undefeated day. Sophomore
Hannah Shields led the attack with 24 kills to go with 15 digs, while freshman
Jordan Pitzer tallied 11 kills. Senior
Lindsey Boles had a team-high 18 digs, sophomore
Christiana Summa had 13 digs and freshman
Keenan Marks had 51 assists and 10 digs in the win. Marks also had a team-high four service aces against Piedmont.
The Cougars opened the day with victory over Ferrum (12-11, 6-7 USA South) by winning 25-12, 25-22, and 25-21. Shields again led Averett with 26 kills and added nine digs. Senior
Katelyn Holley had a team-high 13 digs against the Panthers, while Boles and Summa each totaled 10 digs. Marks had 40 assists.
Averett returns to the court on Wednesday at Mary Baldwin College at 7 p.m.
